Dear Parents, Students and Prospective Students,

As Principal of Tsolo Agriculture and Rural Development Institute, it is my pleasure to welcome you to TARDI college website. #TeamTARDI thank you for taking the time to visit. We hope to provide you with some useful information that will assist you to understand our academic offering and community engagement projects.

I am hugely impressed by the commitment of TARDI staff to our students in ensuring that we provide excellent education through practice. The drive, passion, dedication and extra effort my staff throw in, to organising a practical education in order to meet the need to provide 70% hands on exposure is commendable.

Under my leadership, and as a team working together, we strongly promote academic achievement among our students. The cultural and sporting achievements of all of our students and staff are also proudly celebrated together.

TARDI is an educational institution falling under the auspices of the Eastern Cape government through the Department of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform (DRDAR). It offers a Diploma in Animal health with the hope to expand the academic offering in the future. However, it also offers other shorter programmes in varied subjects like agriculture management, sewing to bakery and confectionery. Over and above these educational programmes, TARDI also offers extension services from animal health services to agricultural production services. TARDI also maintains some small-scale agricultural activity in various forms from Nguni and dairy cattle farming, poultry, sheep farming, horticulture including hydroponics, aquaculture as well as agro-processing. Both livestock and cropping activities are undertaken primarily for educational purposes. Students from other institutions serve their internships on these facilities. Communities also receive practical instruction through these facilities and activities.

The students are encouraged to immerse themselves in the academic programme and the extra-curricular activities offered such as Netball, Soccer, Rugby, Volleyball, Drama and Choral music.
